Tips For Purchasing a Made to Measure Wedding Suit

Tips For Purchasing a Made to Measure Wedding Suit

When preparing for a wedding, a suit is one of the most important things to consider. You want to look good in this special event and having a suit that entirely fits you is one of the best ways to ensure that. People usually go for bespoke and made to measure suits, but not many know the difference.

Bespoke wedding suits are made entirely from scratch, with everything cut in regards to the client’s precise shape and size, from their shoulder’s slope to the width of their calves. Such suits usually take more time to create as they involve a lot of different measurements. Ideally, they are more expensive than ready to wear or made to measure suits.

Made to measure (which is what we are going to discuss in this article), refers to clothes that have been designed from a standard size base pattern. However, these suits are made to fit each client individually. The fit of a made to measure suit is, of course, superior to that of a ready to wear one since the latter are designed to meet the maker’s interpretation of an ordinary client. The main advantage of a made to measure suit is that it will be well-fitted to your body and you may have the chance to customize the detailing and the fabric. That being said, here are a few tips that you may want to keep in mind when purchasing a made to measure wedding suit:

Don’t Make Your Measurements

Taking wrist and bicep measurements can be easy, but accurately measuring your shoulders and legs could be hard. Have a friend take your measurements and have them double check for certainty. Also, if the brand you are after has guides or videos on how to take measurements, ensure you watch them since different brands have slightly different means of measuring as well as interpreting measurements.

Also, if you are in doubt, try and make the measurements larger instead of smaller. That’s because it’s easier to take out fabric than adding it. Most suits come with very little fabric to let out, therefore reducing the possibility of making a larger suit. However, it’s easier to make a garment smaller. For instance, if your chest is somewhere between 40” and 41” but you are not certain, go with 41”. If you go with 41” and it comes out as too big, you can easily reduce the size.

Research on the Look you Want

This includes color, gorge height, type of fabric, button stance, shoulder type and the little details such as suspender buttons, side tabs, and interior pockets. This is especially important if you are considering working with a brand that can accommodate several custom requests. If you want a particular look, inquire with the makers to see if it’s something they can accomplish.

Do not be Afraid of Asking For Adjustments

Just because a wedding suit has been made specifically for you doesn’t mean it’s going to fit right out of the box. As a matter of fact, odds are far better that it will not. So, consider making a few alterations to the suit. Luckily, most makers will either make the changes themselves of offer you a credit to perform the adjustments with your favorite tailor. In some cases, alterations are not enough to fix a suit, or they are too expensive. In such situations, you may ask for a remake, especially if the shop did the measuring, meaning it is their fault.

Made to measure suits can be perfect for a wedding and it is up to you to look for that perfect suit for such an occasion. Use the tips mentioned above, and you will not regret your choice.
