More About Us
1. In what New Mexico City do you live?
We are proud to say we live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. We were both raised and still reside on the West Side of Albuquerque. We are graduates of Cibola High School and are currently University of New Mexico Lobos! We are fortunate to spend a good deal of time in Santa Fe with family.
2. How did you meet and how long have you been together?
Kenny and I met in tenth grade in a computer design class at Cibola High School. One day all of the people who normally sat at our tables were absent, leaving us both alone. I approached Kenny to say hello and see what he was playing on his phone. From that moment on, we became best friends. Over time our beautiful friendship grew into a powerful love. I am very lucky to say that I am truly getting to marry my best friend! I believe being such close friends in the beginning has made our relationship stronger.
3. What do you both do for fun in New Mexico?
We enjoy so many aspects of the Land of Enchantment! This gorgeous state offers us a great variety of activities and culture. One of our favorite things to do is go to the Balloon Fiesta. The Balloon Fiesta is an incredible time of year that we get to enjoy with our friends and family. We love to get up very early in the morning, drink some hot chocolate, and watch our skies fill up with beautiful shapes and colors. We are also grateful to have beautiful mountains in which to hit the slopes in the winter. Kenny enjoys playing adult recreational soccer in various leagues around the city. In the summer, we can usually be found near a pool. Our favorite thing to do in New Mexico is to eat the wonderful New Mexican cuisine! Whether we are eating at Kenny’s Grandmother’s house or dining out at a great restaurant, we love New Mexican food. The delicious aroma of the chile-roasting season is one of the smells that always reminds us we are home.
4. Tell us about your occupations:
Kenny and I are both full time students at the University of New Mexico. We will be graduating in May, both with degrees in Secondary Education. While we enjoy very different subjects, English for me, and science for Kenny, we both share a passion for education. All of my life I have known that I wanted to be a teacher; I have always wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of young people who will be shaping the future. I am proud to work in the Albuquerque Public Schools, enriching my community in the best way I know how. I consider myself very lucky to have found someone who shares the same dreams. Kenny understands from a very personal perspective the power of a teacher in the life of a student.
5. What was your most memorable moment together?
Our most memorable moment together as a couple would have to be the day Kenny proposed. In August of 2007, I drove to a friend’s house where I was greeted not only by our friend, but a letter from Kenny with directions to “a surprise.” I was led on an all-day scavenger hunt around Albuquerque with clues to different places that are very special to Kenny and me. That day, with my friend who acted as surprised as I was, I followed the clues to our favorite restaurant, the place of our first date, and eight other destinations that finally led me back to Kenny’s house. When I walked in the door, I was greeted by my close family and a few friends. Kenny walked up to me, got down on one knee, and asked me if he could have the honor of spending the rest of his life with me. I was so excited I started hugging him before he even got out the ring! This was a very special moment that we will cherish for our entire lives.
6. What would you like voters to know about you?
First, we would like the voters to know that we feel truly honored to have been chosen as a top five finalist couple in the New Mexico Dream Wedding Giveaway. It is a privilege to be in such a wonderful competition. All of this would not be possible for us without the amazing sponsors! Also, we love being University of New Mexico Lobos, and are looking forward to our graduation in May. We are proud to be active members of our community, and are looking forward to becoming New Mexico educators. We both believe in the positive impact a wonderful teacher can make in the life of a student. Finally, Kenny and I are so excited to start the next chapter in our lives together. We share many of the same values, aspirations, goals and are proud to say our faith is foundation of our relationship. We are very blessed by our amazing family and friends who have supported us through difficult times and rejoiced with us in our good times.
7. What do you look forward to the most during your dream honeymoon in Maui?
Whenever I think of a dream honeymoon, I think of Hawaii. During our dream honeymoon in Maui, we would most look forward to spending time alone with one another in such a beautiful location. It would be incredible to share a Hawaiian sunset together. We are so excited to explore the gorgeous mountains and lay on some of the world’s most stunning beaches. Taking the Road to Hana has always been a dream of ours, and to see Maui’s breathtaking waterfalls would be thrilling. With Kenny’s science background, he is also looking forward to seeing the diverse wildlife and beautiful flora. We would also love to experience the rich culture of the island. Most importantly, we are looking forward to being with one another and celebrating our marriage. Maui really is the dream honeymoon!
8. Why do you deserve to win the 2009 New Mexico Dream Wedding?
Kenny and I would be honored to represent New Mexico by winning the $50,000 Dream Wedding Giveaway. Our desire would be to have a wedding that would capture the sum of our love to share with all those we care about deeply. Our family and friends are very important to us and a dream wedding would be a way to celebrate with them. When we began discussing wedding plans, Kenny and I decided that the best start for our life together was to finish college. In addition, working in a profession that would make a positive difference in our community is important to us. We aspire to buy a house and attend graduate school in the near future. The New Mexico Dream Wedding Giveaway would help us in achieving these goals. We would like to thank all of the sponsors and the New Mexico Dream Wedding for giving us this opportunity. We wish all the couples best of luck!
